Mycobacterial Skin Infections

چکیده
Lupus vulgaris [6] This is the most common form of cutaneous tuberculosis, occurring after primary infection in individuals with good natural resistance. Females are more often affected and it is also more common in children. Most commonly, it affects the face and neck and is seen initially as firm, translucent, brown nodules. Without treatment, the lesions slowly spread laterally, leading to disfiguring scarring. Malignant change has been reported in these scars. Diagnosis is confirmed by biopsy and culture. Patients should receive full anti-tuberculous therapy for at least one year.

When typical is atypical: mycobacterial infection mimicking cutaneous vasculitis.
Patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) who present with skin disease pose the clinician with diagnostic challenges. The skin disease can reflect an increase in systemic disease activity suggested by other features of active lupus and, as such, usually responds well to more aggressive immunosuppressive therapy. Other possibilities of skin disease include drug eruptions, skin disease un...
متن کاملDiVerential avian and human tuberculin skin testing in non-tuberculous mycobacterial infection
Objective—To determine the sensitivity of diVerential avian and human delayedtype hypersensitivity skin testing in the diagnosis of non-tuberculous mycobacterial lymphadenitis. Method—Retrospective review of all patients with culture proved nontuberculous mycobacterial lymph node infections who also had diVerential avian and human skin testing performed over a 10 year period from 1986 to 1996. ...

متن کاملCutaneous Mycobacterium abscessus Infection Associated with Mesotherapy Injection
Non-tuberculous mycobacterial skin infections have an increasing incidence. In immunocompetent patients, they usually follow local trauma. We present a case of cutaneous Mycobacterium abscessus infection following mesotherapy. The lesions were successfully treated with a combination of clarithromycin, ciprofloxacin, and doxycycline. Atypical mycobacterial infection should be suspected in patien...
متن کاملExtraction and biological evaluation of Mycobacterium kansasii extracellular vesicles as a vaccine candidate against mycobacterial pulmonary infections
Introduction: Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are bacterial products with diverse biological roles. Like many microorganisms, Mycobacterium kansasii as a nontuberculous mycobacteria (NTM), can naturally release EVs. The aim of the present study was the extraction and biological evaluation of M. kansasii as a vaccine candidate against mycobacterial pulmonary infections. Methods: After bacterial cul...
متن کاملMycobacterium mucogenicum infection following dacryocystorhinostomy and Crawford tube placement.
IMPORTANCE Nontuberculous mycobacterial infections of the skin can be seen in cases of immunosuppression and/or traumatic implantation of contaminated objects. Surgical settings with appropriate sterilization techniques have been immune to these types of infections. We report a case of nosocomially derived infection from a sterile procedure. OBSERVATIONS A woman in her 70s presented with a fa...
